Speaker lineup includes representatives from various veteran-related nonprofits.
A variety of speakers from nonprofits will highlight 17³Ô¹Ï꿉۪s Be the One Mental Wellness Committee meeting scheduled in late August during the organization’s national convention in Louisville, Ky.
The committee is tasked with reviewing recent trends in veteran suicide as it relates to traumatic brain injury, post-traumatic stress disorder, military sexual trauma and other conditions, as well as analyzing best practices in veteran suicide prevention that are not currently used by the U.S. Department of Defense or the Department of Veterans Affairs, with the purpose of encouraging government agencies to adopt them.
The meeting will take place from 1-2:30 p.m. on Friday, Aug. 28, in the Kentucky International Convention Center’s Ballroom D, Main Concourse. Meeting attendees must be registered to attend the national convention.
The speaker lineup includes:
· Former U.S. Army Green Beret Nate Boyer, co-founder of . Boyer played college football for the University of Texas and then in the preseason for the NFL’s Seattle Seahawks. MVP was founded by Boyer and FOX Sports NFL Insider Jay Glazer to address the challenges that veterans and professional athletes face in transition once the uniform comes off. MVP empowers military, veterans, and professional athletes to thrive when the uniform comes off, through fitness, health, and wellness programs.
· Jason L. Moore-Brown, Policy Advisor of and a founding member of the . After his own experience with psychedelic-assisted therapy through the Heroic Hearts Project, Moore-Brown became the organization’s policy advisor. He serves as second vice commander of American Legion Post 426 in Montana, where he has led two national resolutions supporting emerging therapies for veterans.
· Executive Director Juliana Mercer, who advocates for veteran access to MDMA-assisted and psychedelic-assisted therapies within VA. A Marine Corps veteran, Mercer serves as a commander of Blue Sky Post 426 in Montana and has held leadership roles with Wounded Warrior Project, Team Red, White & Blue and MedTechVets, and sits on several veteran service organization boards.
