National chairman shares mission of service undertaken by 17³Ô¹ÏÍø Riders
As American Legion Riders, we often talk about the miles we ride, the events we support, and the friendships we build. But our story has never been about motorcycles alone.
It has always been about service.
For more than three decades, American Legion Riders have answered the call — standing beside veterans, supporting military families, honoring the fallen, mentoring youth, and strengthening communities nationwide. The motorcycle is simply the vehicle that brings us together. Our true purpose is found in the mission.
And that mission matters now more than ever.
Through the Veterans & Children Foundation (VCF), we are changing lives every day by funding accredited service officers who help veterans navigate the VA claims process and by providing Temporary Financial Assistance to military and veteran families facing unexpected hardships.
These programs deliver real impact — helping veterans secure the benefits they’ve earned and helping families keep food on the table and a roof over their heads during difficult times.
That is why 17³Ô¹ÏÍø has set an ambitious goal of raising $25 million through the Veterans & Children Foundation. We have already reached just over $11.5 million, with American Legion Riders contributing more than $1.7 million — establishing our program as one of the strongest and most visible supporters of the VCF.
Fortunately, American Legion Riders have never backed down from a challenge.
In 2026, we have powerful opportunities to turn our passion for riding into even greater impact.
The Harley-Davidson Let’s Ride Challenge invites every Rider — whether you ride a Harley-Davidson, an Indian, a Honda, a BMW, a Can-Am, or any other motorcycle — to participate. Simply register, select 17³Ô¹ÏÍø as your charity of choice, and every mile you ride helps push us closer to our $25 million goal.
On July 4, 2026, we will take part in Sojourn 250, escorting a historic American flag from Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, to Washington, D.C., as part of America’s 250th Anniversary celebration. This flag has already journeyed across 26 countries — flying over the graves and memorials of American heroes — and visited every U.S. state and territory. We are aiming for 250 Riders to make this a truly powerful escort, and we are currently just 80 Riders short. This is more than a ride — it is history in motion and a powerful tribute to the generations who defended our freedoms. I encourage every Rider who can join us to register today and be part of this once-in-a-generation moment.
And just weeks later, we celebrate a milestone of our own: the 20th anniversary of 17³Ô¹ÏÍø Riders Legacy Run. For twenty years, this ride has stood as one of the most visible and unifying events in our program — bringing Riders together from across the nation while showcasing the growth and strength of American Legion Riders. We owe a deep debt of gratitude to every Rider who has participated in past Legacy Runs. Your commitment, miles, and dedication have shaped this event into the powerful tradition it is today. Registration is now open, and there has never been a better time to become part of the Legacy Run.

Together, we are not simply riding motorcycles. We are carrying forward a legacy of service.
As American Legion National President Pam Ray reminds us, we remain mission-driven, family focused. As National Commander Dan K. Wiley reminds us, we are better together.
When we unite behind a common purpose, there is no limit to what we can accomplish.
Let us continue to Ride Together — Serve Together as Champions of Hope.
For God and Country.
